    About Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM):

    TCM is an ancient medical system that has been practised in China for thousands of years. It includes acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. TCM holds the view that the human body is a holistic organism in and of itself, and as part of the universe. The condition of the whole body (body, mind, spirit) as well as the effects of nature (seasons, weather, environment, geographic factors) are all considered when making a TCM diagnosis and establishing the principles of treatment. Therefore, the treatment given to each person is individualized. Although TCM is an old form of traditional medicine, it has been successfully integrated with modern medicine in China over the last forty years. A lot of research work has been done since then. The results have strongly suggested the great value of and potential for TCM to augment the effects of modern medicine in promoting health.

    What is Acupuncture?

    Acupuncture is a therapy which regulates body functions through the insertion of very fine needles to specific acu-points. This achieves balance of the body energies. From the TCM perspective this “balance” is the reflection of health.

    What does acupuncture do to the body?

    Acupuncture helps to:

    A. Balance Yin and Yang energies of the body
    B. Strengthen the vital energy and the body’s defence against disease
    C. Promote normal flow of Qi and Blood in the body
    D. Stop pain

    About Diet Therapy:

    According to the theory of TCM, grains, fruits, vegetables, meats, nuts, in fact almost every food we eat has its own nature, which can be described as Yin or Yang, cold or warm, moist or dry. Each individual body has its own constitution, and it is only when the nature of food fulfills the needs of the body that we can get the most benefit from the food we eat. A healthy diet can avoid many health problems, and diet therapy is also used to help the recovery of diseases. At BMSHC, we provide you with information about your body constitution according to TCM principles and give you suggestions about the kind of diet that is most suitable for you.

    About Lifestyle Recommendation:

    Lifestyle recommendation is an important component of treatment at BMSHC. We teach people to be aware of the influence that lifestyle can have on the health of the body. We help people to revaluate events in their daily life. We suggest that people follow a lifestyle that is based on the basic needs of the body and individually designed to achieve optimal energy and well being.

    About Self Health Care Education:

    Weekend and evening courses are available for information on topics such as diet therapy, self massage and Qigong. These courses are all focused on simple and practical ways to maintain or improve health.

    About Physiotherapy:

    Treatment sessions are geared toward individualized treatment with a focus on restoring function and managing pain as fully as possible. The sessions consist of a combination of approaches that can include:

  • Education about your condition and how you can manage it most effectively
  • Manual therapy (mobilization of joint, muscular, soft and neural tissues)
  • Specific exercises to address your area of concern
